BL-5C Nokia Branded Batteries at Risk of Overheating
I just heard from the news last night that Nokia has issued a product advisory for the Nokia branded BL-5C battery manufactured by Matsushita between December 2005 and November 2006. Nokia has pointed out though, that this applies only for 46 million batteries manufactured by Matsushita, all batteries from other suppliers are not included in this advisory.
It is reported that the incidents occured in very rare cases and approximately 100 incidents happened while charging the battery. No serious injuries associated with these incidents according from Nokia.
To determine if you are using a BL-5C battery:
- "Nokia" and "BL-5C" are printed on the front side
- Nokia mark appears at the top, and the battery identification number (consisting of 26 characters) is found at the bottom
To see the list of affected Nokia phones or to further identify if your battery is part of this product advisory, please visit the Product Advisory for Nokia BL-5C battery Site. If you're one of the [un]lucky, you will get a replacement from Nokia, free of charge.
